Featuring Rochel Marie Lawson | Growth Department Podcast, Episode 19
What if your business strategy included your breath? What if success was measured not only in revenue but also in how energized, focused, and fulfilled you feel when you wake up?
In this episode of the Growth Department podcast, Chelsey Reynolds talks with Rochel Marie Lawson, an Ayurvedic nurse practitioner, author, and founder of Blissful Living for You. Rochel shares how aligning your energy, mindset, and business creates more clarity, more vitality, and yes, more profit. Her approach is about building a business that works with your body and spirit instead of draining them.
You’re a Whole Human, Not Just a CEO
Rochel’s journey began in the high-pressure world of trauma nursing. Working night shifts in the ER, she leaned on her intuition to try holistic practices with patients. Breathwork and meditation became part of her toolkit. To her surprise, arrhythmias shifted back into normal rhythm, and patients returned to say the techniques changed their lives.
That experience led her deeper into Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of health that views body, mind, and spirit as an interconnected whole. As Rochel studied, she began connecting the dots between personal wellness and professional performance. She realized that alignment in health often shows up as alignment in business.
What Ayurveda Offers Founders
Ayurveda is a philosophy of living that dates back thousands of years. It’s grounded in the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and ether—and teaches that each person has a unique energy profile, called a dosha.
The three main doshas are:
Vata (air and ether): Creative, fast-moving, idea-generating.
Pitta (fire and water): Focused, driven, decisive.
Kapha (earth and water): Grounding, steady, supportive.
Everyone has all three, but one or two tend to dominate. Recognizing your dosha helps you understand when you are thriving and when you are out of balance.
“Your dosha affects how you lead, how you communicate, and even what kind of work energizes or drains you,” Rochel explains. “When you’re out of alignment, your business will feel it.”
Strategy Starts With Self-Awareness
For founders, misalignment eventually catches up. It might appear as chronic fatigue, decision paralysis, or a quiet sense of dread before every meeting.
Rochel encourages leaders to identify their dosha and ask reflective questions:
Does your role match your natural energy?
Are you making space for breath, reflection, and recalibration?
Are you building a company that reflects your full self, not just your resume?
These questions act as a lens for every business decision. A Vata founder may need creative freedom balanced with routines. A Pitta thrives on autonomy but must avoid pushing themselves or their team to burnout. A Kapha may excel in operations and systems but needs vision and movement to stay inspired.
Detox for Body, Mind, and Spirit
One of Rochel’s most powerful teachings is the importance of detox for the body, mind, and spirit. She describes it as scraping away the sludge that builds up over time. Stress, old habits, or outdated offers can block new growth.
Her approach to detox includes:
Body: Choose nutrition aligned to your dosha.
Mind: Use daily affirmations and breathwork.
Spirit: Release old stories that no longer serve you.
Each layer clears space for energy, creativity, and focus. Founders who practice this show up to their business with greater clarity and resilience.
Spirituality as a Growth Tool
For Rochel, spirituality and strategy are not separate. They work best when blended. She advises starting small, comparing it to eating a cobbler one spoonful at a time.
Spirituality in business could mean a minute of breath work before a pitch meeting, an affirmation on a sticky note by your laptop, a weekly journaling session, or a phone-free walk. These habits create focus, strengthen decision-making, and reconnect you to your “why.”
These are tools that sharpen your ability to lead.
From Passion to Purpose to Profit
Many founders dream of turning passion into profit. Rochel helps people find alignment first, then scale from there.
“If you know what you love, and you’re doing it in a way that aligns with your natural tendencies, people feel that,” she says. “That energy is contagious. It attracts the right clients, the right opportunities, and the right momentum.”
She shares the example of someone who loves baking. At first, it’s just joy—sharing cookies with friends or coworkers. With the right structure, that joy becomes a sustainable business that preserves the soul of the work.
Aligning Your Energy and Business Evolves
One of Rochel’s biggest insights is that alignment is never static. Just as a butterfly transforms, entrepreneurs often shed roles, identities, or values as they grow. The key is to check in often, ask what’s working, and have the courage to adjust.
“You’re allowed to outgrow a career, a title, even an identity,” Rochel says. “As long as you’re paying attention to what lights you up, you’re still on the path.”
Even after building multiple businesses over 25 years, Rochel has shifted direction many times. That willingness to adapt has kept her aligned and energized through every stage.
A Business That Feels Like a Bentley
At the end of the episode, Chelsey asks Rochel what car she would be. Her answer? Depending on the day, a Bentley and a Porsche. Elegance and speed. Wisdom and fire. Her ideal blend captures the essence of soul-aligned leadership and bringing your whole self into your work with power and grace.
For founders ready to glow, grow, and build something that lasts, Rochel offers permission to start from the inside out. Alignment in mind, body, and spirit creates clarity, energy, and profit that no strategy alone can deliver.
The Path to Personal Growth
Personal growth is a journey, not a destination. As we navigate our careers, it’s crucial to embrace change and seek out opportunities for development. This is where the magic happens. By focusing on our strengths and understanding our weaknesses, we can create a more fulfilling professional life.
Embrace Continuous Learning
One of the best ways to grow personally is through continuous learning. Whether it’s reading books, attending workshops, or listening to podcasts, each new piece of knowledge adds to our toolkit. It’s like collecting gems that we can use to shine brighter in our careers.
Build a Supportive Network
Surrounding ourselves with a supportive network is vital. Connecting with like-minded individuals can provide encouragement and inspiration. Sharing experiences and insights can lead to breakthroughs that propel us forward.
Set Clear Goals
Setting clear, achievable goals is essential for personal growth. These goals act as a roadmap, guiding us toward our desired outcomes. Regularly revisiting and adjusting these goals ensures we stay on track and continue to evolve.
Celebrate Small Wins
Don’t forget to celebrate your small wins along the way! Each step forward is a victory. Acknowledging these moments boosts our confidence and keeps us motivated.
